Veteran performer Frederick Weller has memorably created stage roles in the original productions of Richard Greenberg’s Take Me Out, Neil LaBute’s The Shape of Things and Terrence McNally’s Mothers and Sons. For the Broadway revival of Edward Albee’s Seascape, Mr. Weller donned a vivid costume to play a sensuous lizard. Weller has numerous screen and television credits, including appearances on all the Law and Order variations. He most recently appeared on Broadway as Bob Ewell in To Kill a Mockingbird, with Jeff Daniels.
Now, the versatile Weller will portray the wily patriarch Big Daddy in the return engagement of last summer’s acclaimed Off-Broadway revival of Tennessee Williams’ Pulitzer-Prize classic, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. That acclaimed Ruth Stage production featured Matt de Rogatis’ passionate performance as Brick, which he will reprise. Netflix Cobra Kai star, Courtney Henggeler will be making her New York City stage debut here as Maggie.
Presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Samuel French, Inc., Cat on a Hot Tin Roof will begin previews at Theatre at St. Clement’s on February 24, 2023, opening on March 5, 2023, and run for 42 performances until March 31, 2023. Director Joe Rosario will again helm this incarnation, further casting will be announced shortly. Scenic designer Matt Imhoff’s original striking modern décor will be on display, with the new addition Christian Specht’s lighting design.
The Theatre at St. Clement’s is located at 423 West 46th Street. For tickets and information, visit www.ruthstage.org/cat
